Its been nearly a year since I wrote my first Binge Watch and Chill list and lately with Netflix’s great line up of shows I figure why not continue on and do a part 2 since I’ve been binge watching Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu series once again. This list features a few series that I have already covered in detailed spoiler post or speculation post so without further ado here is my top six Binge Watch and Chill list.
I think I finished Altered Carbon in record time, binge watching the series over a weekend and seriously considering calling Guinness book of records to see if anyone has even created a record for quickest series binged watched. Altered Carbon is perfect for those of you who love cliff hangers as well as the typical murder mystery with a twist. Altered Carbon is like the love child of the newest reboot of Ghost in the Shell and Blade Runner, While still being original and falling into that era of cyberpunk themed and styled shows. The main protagonist doesn’t get all the screen time either, so you still have that multi protagonist feel and you get to fall in love with multiple characters along the way.
I know most of my ‘Amber Reviews things’ tend to contain a lot of the Drama/Sci-Fi series how ever Big Mouth is too good to leave out of this list. Big Mouth is a coming of age series targeted at adults made by adults, so you can already tell it’s going to be a hilarious over dramatic cartoon series. If you need a buffer while you patiently wait for the next season of Rick and Morty then this is 100% for you. Big Mouth had me in stitches from the very first episode when they introduced the hormone monster and his counterpart the hormone monstress, who is voiced by Maya Rudolph from bridesmaids. The voice cast is full of hilarious actors/actress’ there seems too be a handful of your favourite SNL alums and comedy icons. If you have a dark sense of humour and just want to zone out and laugh like an idiot then Big Mouth is for you.
Sneaky Pete was one of those hidden gems that I found one day while scrolling with my Binge Watch and Chill partner, at first I thought nothing of it but a few episodes in and I was sold, I handed my time over to Amazon Prime and had no regrets. Sneaky Pete is an extremely comical yet thrilling series. Giovanni Ribisi plays the role of Marius an con man pretending to be his old cell mate Pete so he can lay low and possibly even carry out another con.Season one of Sneaky Pete is full of family secrets and Season two is even more intense as the story comes closer and closer to the family finding out, Marius will go to any length to make sure the family doesn’t find out but real Pete gets an early release and where’s the first place he wants to go? back home. Sneaky Pete is full of palm sweating drama which makes it the perfect addition to the Binge Watch and Chill list.
Now this one isn’t technically a series to binge watch, however, stay with me because The Cloverfield Paradox is a pretty spectacular film being the third film in a series of films. It makes the list for a couple of reasons but one of those reasons is Chris O’dowd’s role, I have always been a huge fan of Chris O’dowd ever since his early days in the IT Crowd (Also secretly in love with both Moss and Roy) and you can always count on him to make anything slightly comedic. The Cloverfield Paradox gave me a very Interstellar vibes with the main story line focusing on the typical survival of humanity and a risky trip up into space as a last hope, the film makes you question a lot of the characters motives and has you completely blindsided to the plot twists. so if you’re into the survival of humanity and a great cast then The Cloverfield Paradox is a pretty good match for a night in.
Westworld season two already prematurely makes this list due to the sheer amount of detail that went into season one, with all the major plot twists and the character developments I can already tell that it will be worth locking yourself away for a few days to binge watch the series. Westworld starts streaming on the 22 of April and I’ll be watching closely to see if my speculations about season two come true.
