A Comic con 2018 interview brought some reassuring news from our Goddess of love Yetide Badaki letting us know that season two, despite changes at American Gods including a new co-showrunner and new cast members will be packed full of the drama we love. Stating in the interview with TVLine; “The metaphor for me was that it was coming back to the same school, different class,”.
With it being no secret that production is still underway and still no offical release date fans are still left wondering if/when season two will be aired, however Starz programming president Carmi Zlotnik has stated that the network has already received the first few episodes. Adding “They look fantastic,” Zlotnik said. “It’s very safe to say we will follow the tradition of Season 1 and produce some mindblowing television.”
Zlotnik also had a lot to say about The Media’s (Gillian Anderson) exit, “Gillian could not continue, she was never contracted to continue, so we cast a new actress playing New Media,” Zlotnik said. “But because of the magical world of ‘American Gods,’ it leaves the possibility open to bring in new actors to play continuing roles because the Gods come to human beings in different forms.”
We’ve also finally heard some news from our beloved Easter (Kristin Chenoweth) about whether of not she will be returning for Season two, in an interview with Vulture she’s was asked about reappearing.
“In terms of other TV roles, will you be involved in American Gods going forward? Bryan Fuller, who also worked with you on Pushing Daisies, was running the show, but he’s no longer involved in the second season”.
“Yeah, Bryan is my person. They actually asked me come back next week. Next week is gonna be a lot of press for Trial & Error, just schedule-wise. I didn’t feel that I could not do that. I’m very proud of Trial & Error, as I am of American Gods. So we’re actually trying to find another date for me to appear [on American Gods]. That’s where we stand right this minute.”
So we can finally rest easy knowing that Easter might potentially be returning and that Kristin Chenoweth and the Team are working closely to resolve the issues with scheduling to bring back Easter to read the full interview head over to Vulture.
Season two has also release a new plot line, allowing us the fans to understand the path that Shadow (Ricky Whittle) and Mr Wednesday (Ian McShane) are travelling on. “The battle between Old Gods and New Gods continues to brew as we join Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) just a few short hours after his declaration of war and the epic showdown that ensued at Easter’s party. While Mr. World plans revenge for Wednesday’s attack and Technical Boy searches for Media, Mr. Wednesday continues his quest to pitch the case for war to the Old Gods with Shadow (Ricky Whittle). Laura and Mad Sweeney in tow, Shadow begins to understand this strange world of the gods and carve out a place in it as a believer, but it is far from a straight path. Change requires sacrifice, and when things don’t go as planned at the House on the Rock, both Old and New Gods, and those they meet along the way, find themselves on journeys across America — all destined for a climactic showdown in Cairo, Illinois.”
